With Portugal’s victory over the Czechs today and Turkey’s victory over Switzerland, Portugal has moved onto the UEFA Euro 2008 Quarterfinals. The Turkey win sets up a really tough match-up for Czech Republic to get into the Quarters with the Portugal soccer squad from Group A. Many people questioned the buzz surrounding Turkey as a dark horse in the first round after Portugal put them down earlier this week. The upstart Turks fought back against a hostile crowd watching Switzerland.

Portugal soccer earned a resounding victory over a feisty Czech Republic 3-1 in UEFA Euro 2008 action today. Portugal outshot Czech Republic 13-3 (on net) and played a strong match throughout — Ricardo was forced to only make 1 save. Deco, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Ricardo Quaresma each tallied a goal for the Portuguese squad. Ronaldo’s goal was a real gem and Quaresma’s goal came in stoppage time to put the game into the books. Each team had 6 corners, but the Czechs were the only ones who managed to score.

Good start! Portugal Defeats Turkey 2-0

Portugal defeated Turkey 2-0 to start off the Euro 2008 campaign for one of the top two favorites in the tournament. It took into the second half for Portugal to take the lead when Pepe finished a 1-2 with captain Nuno Gomes. Substitute Raul Meireles added the insurance goal. Portugal has plenty more chances, hitting pipe on a least three shots, but coming up short.
